I mean if it were ants, you could definitely let them through, they probably won’t cause that much harm inside your vehicle as long as it isn’t an infestation. Rats in your vehicle? That’s something you don’t really see everyday and it’s pretty obvious how they can be problematic.

Getting Rid of Rats with Chemical Based Products

If you’re removing rats from your vehicle, you shouldn’t have just one option. You need to have plenty just so you know if Plan A doesn’t work there would be always other Plans left. Rats can get in the vehicle’s engine and you can use different items to attach inside of your engine to get them off of it.

Mothballs is an item that’s probably very familiar with you. Although a great way to remove rats, it’s a little bit tricky to use them as it’s both toxic to both humans and animals. If you have a pet or a child, make sure they aren’t near these balls or intake it when you aren’t looking. To use them in getting rid of rats, you may put them inside any bottle and make little holes around it. Another way you could do it is, put it inside a bag and hang it inside the hood of your vehicle, make sure that you tie it on a place where you won’t mess with your vehicle’s engine.

Rat Repellents can usually be bought as a spray. In using these repellents, all you have to do is get one repellent and spray it onto places where the rats could come through but do not spray it directly onto the engine of your vehicle. Spray it around your vehicle or anywhere near your vehicle but not directly onto the engine and not only does this repel rats but it also prevents ants from coming back as there is also a taste to this repellent.

Rat Traps and Poison are items that you can use inside of your home but are still applicable for vehicles, using these could be a little tricky as if you use poison and the rats die inside of places such as your engine then it’d be pretty difficult to get them out as it can pretty much kill them. It isn’t impossible to get them out though. You can also use traps such as those with sticky substance to catch them. You can place these items near your vehicle but a friendly reminder that if you have kids or pet animals in your house, don’t let them get near the vehicle when these items are on display as it could harm them.

Getting Rid of Rats by Non-Chemical Means

One might think that it’s difficult to remove rats from the vehicle naturally, but it’s not, it just doesn’t require as much items when you remove rats from your vehicle chemically. Although an option, removing rats naturally can also be a way of prevention.

Use your Vehicle. By using your vehicle, you are able to put a sense of the danger to the rats and make them leave your vehicle.

Clean the vehicle. May it be the inside or the outside of your vehicle, make sure to make it clean and remove and source of food near your vehicle. You could also your vehicle’s parking area to make sure that there aren’t any places the rats could hide on.

Essential Oils are pretty known to be great for ants but they can work on rats too. The smell of essential oil is strong enough to repel the rats. In order to use essential oil, pour the oil on cotton balls but don’t let them become extremely soaked with oil.  You may then place these cotton balls in a fixed place, if you’re a fan of essential oils then you probably wouldn’t mind the smell and let’s treat that as a bonus. Some essential oils work better than others, an example would be the Peppermint oil.

It’s always great to know that your vehicle is rat free, don’t leave the ants alone. Find a way to remove them and this’ll prevent both infestation and damages to your vehicle .

How to Avoid getting Rats into your Vehicle Again

You wouldn’t want your vehicle to have rats again or become a rats home right? Well, if you’ve gotten rid of them then that’s great but they might probably come back if you’re not vehicleeful enough. If you want rats out then you’ll need to know how to prevent them from getting in and here are some ways that you could do so.

  • Never leave food on the inside of your vehicle, get rid of any remaining snacks or foods as it’ll serve as an attraction for your rat friends.
  • Use your vehicle regularly, don’t let your vehicle become a display from your garage museum. By using your vehicle regularly, the ants would be less attracted to it as it creates a sense of danger for them.
  • Fix up or close any holes. All the holes that serves as paths could be the reason as to why they were able to find their way to your vehicle anyway.
  • Keep your vehicle clean and it’s surrounding if not pest-free, then pest-free.
  • Spray repellent on places such as the vehicle’s wheels to discourage rats from moving any closer to your vehicle.

Never ever forget to stay alert and on your toes, you may be doing these prevention steps but they could still slip pass through you. Do not get lazy and skip the tasks, always keep an eye on your vehicle if you don’t want to lose it a second time to the rats.
