Ants can randomly just pop out in your home and trail all over your tables, or even at your window sills and maybe right outside your door and it’s better to know that you have many ways to get rid of them.

Here are a few natural ways as to how you can get rid of those little ants inside or even outside your home:

Herbs and Spices

Ants dislike strong aroma. Multiple herbs and spices has a very strong scent. You could choose herbs like peppermint, cinnamon, cloves and so on. On the other hand, if you have spices or prefer to use them then you could use some chili powder, black pepper, paprika and the like. These herbs and spices could either be found in your garden, in your kitchen, or if you have none, you can simply plant them or find them at your local grocery store.

To apply your chosen herb or spices, get a generous amount of your choice and place it on the ants entry points or areas where it seems to be swarming with ants, using these herbs and spices can keep the ants away. You could also place the herbs near those places if you do not want to pluck them away from your pot.

Essential Oils

These are made through the oils of herbs, powered with a strong scent that ants dislike, serving as one of the natural repellent for ants. An essential oil could be  peppermint oil, citrus oil, or even tea tree oil. You may simply buy the essential oil in a store near you or create your own homemade one. Once you have an one in your hands, get an empty spray bottle and pour 1/2 cup of water in it and 12-15 drops of your essential oil. You can add multiple oils for more potency. Shake the bottle well and you can then spray it on ant areas and ant spots that they tend to come from.

Citrus Peels

There are many things that ants do not like to smell, another kind of aroma they do not like is the aroma of citrus. Citrus can be made up of different fruits such as citron, lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit and is toxic to ants. Not only can you enjoy having a drink or eating a citrus fruit, you can also use the leftover peels to keep ants away.

To use the peels, you may use them as is or crush them into pieces and scatter them around ant based spots in your home, especially spots that seem like their way of entering your home. You can also put it on the potted plants inside your home or outside your garden.

Citrus-based Sprays

If you don’t like putting out peels in your home, you can use the juices of your citrus fruits instead, specifically lemon. Although some citrus-based sprays can be bought, you can also create one solution by yourself.

Get a spray bottle and fill it with equal amounts of vinegar and lemon juice, or you can do one with lemon juice, water and some drops of essential oil. Shake the contents inside the bottle and spray it on the ants that you can spot or at areas which are likely to be the ants entry to your home.

These are just some ways you can get rid of ants naturally, there are definitely more that you can test out. To prevent the ants from coming back, don’t forget to keep your house clean especially the table for your food preparations and where you eat or even your pet’s food bowls. Anywhere that there are likely to be any residue that can attract the ants should be cleaned.
