The substance of the bait is sweet and is mixed with poison which kills the ants and since it doesn’t immediately kill the ants, the ant may have gotten the substance and bring it back to where it came from which lets the other ants die. Furthermore, once an ant who ate the poison dies, other ants will eat it and therefore creating a domino effect.
2. Borax and Powdered Sugar
A great homemade alternative for poisonous ant bait would be borax and powdered sugar. This method attracts the ants through the powdered sugar while the borax will serve as a toxin to kill the ants.
